چکیده

This paper investigates a new method of interactive modelling to approximate position and shape of real patients’ organs. The method is particularly successful in that it greatly reduces the time needed to create patient specific models. KisMo [1] is an interactive graphics based modelling software for creating 3D models with elastodynamic behaviour for use with VS-One the Virtual Endoscopic Surgery Trainer (VEST) developed by the Institute for Applied Informatics (IAI) at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe. Software modules have been designed and implemented to enable interactive and intuitive modelling of closed spline curves on tomographic image data (CT, MR), which form a closed spline surface approximating position and shape of real patient organs.

An efficient soft tissue characterization algorithm from in vivo indentation experiments for medical simulation.

BACKGROUND Realistic virtual reality surgical training simulators require an accurate biomechanical model of in vivo soft tissue behaviour. One of the challenges in modelling is to characterize soft tissue properties incorporating the experimental measurements of organ behaviour. METHOD Organ measurements were collected from intra-abdominal organs of pigs, using a robotic indenter and a force...

Modelling of non-linear elastic tissues for surgical simulation.

Realistic modelling of the interaction between surgical instruments and human organs has been recognised as a key requirement in the development of high-fidelity surgical simulators. Primarily due to computational considerations, most of the past real-time surgical simulation research has assumed linear elastic behaviour for modelling tissues, even though human soft tissues generally possess no...

B-SPLINE METHOD FOR TWO-POINT BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS

In this work the collocation method based on quartic B-spline is developed and applied to two-point boundary value problem in ordinary diferential equations. The error analysis and convergence of presented method is discussed. The method illustrated by two test examples which verify that the presented method is applicable and considerable accurate.

Efficient Parameters Selection for CNTFET Modelling Using Artificial Neural Networks

In this article different types of artificial neural networks (ANN) were used for CNTFET (carbon nanotube transistors) simulation. CNTFET is one of the most likely alternatives to silicon transistors due to its excellent electronic properties. In determining the accurate output drain current of CNTFET, time lapsed and accuracy of different simulation methods were compared. The training data for...

Relevance vector machine and multivariate adaptive regression spline for modelling ultimate capacity of pile foundation

This study examines the capability of the Relevance Vector Machine (RVM) and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline (MARS) for prediction of ultimate capacity of driven piles and drilled shafts. RVM is a sparse method for training generalized linear models, while MARS technique is basically an adaptive piece-wise regression approach. In this paper, pile capacity prediction models are developed...
